Welcome to the New Year (or Part Two of Rotary Year 2017-18)
The first half of Rotary Year 2017-18 here in District 5870 was unique, to say the least, and challenging. Three major hurricanes struck Texas and Puerto Rico (I include them because they came to our rescue after Harvey hit, before a subsequent storm devastated their own island). Major earthquakes rocked our sister District 4130 in Mexico. And then a major fire leveled the resort where we had planned to host our May District Conference in Boerne. Talk about a 1 - 2 - 3 whammy!!!!
District 5870 has a unique method to help you become an initial (first-time) Paul Harris Fellow. Over the past six years, 1,207 Rotarians in 76 different clubs have taken advantage of this program, resulting in 619 PHFs. We hope to be able to help you, too.
The Jerry Johnson Testamentary Trust (the "Trust") will generally match contributions of new cash made during the current Rotary year to the Annual Fund-SHARE on a 1-to-1 basis in amounts of $100 to $500 for any active Rotarian in District 5870 who is not yet a first time Paul Harris Fellow.
The Rotary Foundation has AGAIN earned a perfect 100 rating from Charity Navigator!! As a point of reference, Charity Navigator rates 8,000 of America's best-known and some lesser known, but worthy, charities. Of these, only 65 have earned a perfect 100 rating. Our Foundation is one of those 65. Read More

LCRA presented the Rotary Club of Burnet with a $25,000 check as part of the LCRA's Community Development Partnership Program. The grant, with a match of $25,000 from the Rotary Club and up to $50,000 from the City of Burnet, will fund a new pavilion, playground shade cover, resurfaced basketball court and new goals, tables, benches and energy-efficient lighting at Live Oak Park in Burnet. This is a great example of the power of partnerships and the Rotary Club of Burnet making the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self" come to life.
