Rotary Year 2017-18 is almost over... only about six more weeks as I write this. We've accomplished a lot, on many different fronts. However, we can still do a little more to make a difference. Those final touches. Rotarians are hard workers, but they are also procrastinators. I'd like to encourage you to examine your club's - and your own personal - goals and aspirations for this year, and strive to complete your objectives as you can.
District 5870 has a unique method to help you become an initial (first-time) Paul Harris Fellow. Over the past seven years, 1,292 Rotarians in 77 different clubs have taken advantage of this program, resulting in 655 PHFs. We hope to be able to help you, too.
The Jerry Johnson Testamentary Trust (the "Trust") will generally match contributions of new cash made during the current Rotary year to the Annual Fund-SHARE on a 1-to-1 basis in amounts of $100 to $500 for any active Rotarian in District 5870 who is not yet a first time Paul Harris Fellow.
Wow! A new Rotary year begins in less than 60 days. For me, the journey began two years ago. For most of you, just a few months ago you accepted a leadership role in your club or at the district that brings with it responsibilities. Like anything in life, the more one commits, the greater the reward. My commitment to the district governor interview committee was to leave the district better off than when I start my year of service. I hope you share my excitement and will grasp the challenge to make a difference in the year ahead and have fun on the journey.
Congratulations to the following District 5870 Central Texas Clubs for being amazing examples of #PeopleOfAction and the #CenterOfService in each of their communities!
The Public Image Team is so very proud of ALL of the clubs in this amazing District and especially proud of these 4 ROCKSTAR CLUBS!
If I was in Northeast Texas today doing the Celebration of Life, I would tell you about Carl. We met when we were both visitors to the Rotary Club in Angel Fire, New Mexico. He was 19 years older than me; I was pretty new to Rotary and he had several decades of Rotary perfect attendance. We found that we both had a love for church, the mountains, art, and music; he was generous and kind; he loved his wife and family. One day we met up on a walk and right away I noticed his ball cap and instantly realized we were on opposite ends of the political spectrum. But he and I lived by the motto, “Service above Self”. Our friendship never wavered because we were bound together by the strong bond of Rotary, service and compassion.

Sgt. Isaias Perez and his wife Callie stationed at Ft. Hood enjoyed a complimentary weekend in Austin on April 6-8 @ the JW Marriott compliments of Operation Vacation sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Killeen and Austin, the Austin Hotel Lodging Association, County Line Restaurants and Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau. This program provides a military family with all the trimmings from meals to entertainment for a fun weekend to thank them for their service and to provide them with qualify time together. This couple are both members of the Army and their comment when they left was that they had never had such an incredible time and were treated so well.
CONGRATULATIONS to Mary Reynolds!! She has been selected 2018 Volunteer of the Year for Pecan Springs Elementary School. WELL DESERVED!! Thank you Mary for your Service Above Self!
The Caldwell Rotary Club presented Area 3:16 and Rocking A Ministries with $500 each to help further the programs they offer in Caldwell, Texas. They are proud of the work these groups are doing and thankful they can be a part of it!!
Georgetown Rotary Club presented the second check to R.O.C.K. (Ride On Center for Kids) ROCK Ride On Center for Kids as a beneficiary of the Patriots Ball, one of the Field of Honor events. This will help pay for a session of Camp Courage this July, a fabulous equestrian therapy camp that helps kids of military families (8 to 12 years of age), some of whom may have a disability. It is a healing and wonderful program at no cost to the families that the Rotary Club of Georgetown is proud to support.
