Welcome
Project Tumaini

Creating Lasting Impact Through Clean Water
Every morning before school begins, an eight-year-old girl walks to a muddy pond carrying a bucket.
The same water she collects is shared with livestock. It is the only water she has available for drinking.
Tomorrow morning, she'll make the same walk.
Unless we change her story.
That is why DG Jeff selected Project Tumaini to unite District 5870 in Creating Lasting Impact through clean water.
Tumaini (pronounced too-my-ee-nee) is the Swahili word for Hope. Through the installation of WaterPoint Systems, Project Tumaini aims to bring hope and clean water to up to 20 schools in Tanzania's Mkalama District.
Your Foundation Giving Made This Possible
Project Tumaini is proof that The Rotary Foundation changes lives.
Three years ago, District 5870 Rotarians invested in The Rotary Foundation's Annual Fund. This year, a portion of those gifts returned as District Designated Funds (DDF), allowing District 5870 to commit $25,000 to Project Tumaini.
If you supported The Rotary Foundation three years ago, you already have a personal part in bringing clean water to children in Tanzania. The Foundation gifts we made yesterday are changing lives today. The Foundation gifts we make today will change lives tomorrow.
Your Club can become a Project Tumaini Partner
The district's $25,000 commitment provides the foundation, but the opportunity is much bigger.
We are inviting District 5870 clubs to become Project Tumaini partners and help write the next chapter of this story.
District 5870 clubs may participate at one of four partnership levels:
$5,000 – Impact Champion (Sponsors one complete WaterPoint System.)
$2,500 – Impact Leader
$1,000 – Impact Partner
$500 – Impact Sponsor
Individual Contributions
While Project Tumaini was originally intended as an initiative to be supported by Clubs, several Rotarians have reached out asking how they can make a contribution individually. This is the epitome of what Rotarians in District 5870 represent, and we absolutely want to provide an avenue to support this method of funding. We do want to emphasize that contributing to Project Tumaini is not a replacement for contributing to the Rotary Foundation, which remains a top priority for your investments.
Experience the Impact
DG Jeff and PDG Shannon plan on leading a District 5870 service trip to Tanzania where Rotarians will help install WaterPoint Systems, meet the students whose lives are being changed, and witness Rotary's impact firsthand.

FAQs
Q: Does my contribution to Project Tumaini count towards my contribution to Rotary Foundation?
A: No. Project Tumaini is a District initiative and, while some of the funding was provided as a result of prior contributions to Rotary Foundation, this is a completely independent initiative and should not replace any planned contributions you would normally make to the Rotary Foundation.
Q: Can I obtain a receipt for my contribution for tax deduction purposes?
A: Since funds will be passing through the Rotary Club of Pflugerville’s operating account, we are not able to offer this option.
Q: If I make a pledge, when will payment become due?
A: We will be looking to finalize payments of all pledges during the final quarter of the Rotary Year 2026/27. This will provide sufficient time for units to be ordered and made available for installation in the Fall 2027.
Q: If I make a pledge, what payment methods will be available for final payment?
A: We will be offering the same payment options as outlined above.
Q: If the collective pledges and contributions exceed the goal, will individual pledges be displaced?
A: No, it just means that we will be able to make an even greater impact of the world than we first imagined.
