The Rotary Club of Austin-Southwest supplied building supplies and teamed up with Texas Ramp Project to help build a wheelchair ramp at a home on the outskirts of Austin recently. Qualifying applicants are provided with an extremely sturdy, up-to-code, wheelchair ramp for access to exit and enter their homes safely. The owner of this home had to have her wheelchair carried down steps to leave her house.

This is the 6th or 7th ramp constructed by the Club. Often involved in the ramp project is the demolition of an old ramp or porch, often in great dis-repair. Texas Ramp Project is a wonderful organization with which to partner. Made up of retired contractors, shop teachers and construction knowledgeable members, they are fantastic teachers. There is a job for everyone, young and old or skilled and unskilled. A criterion for the partnership is also providing the funding for the building materials which the Club builds into its budget every year.
This is a great project in which to invite non-Rotarian friends to join to get a taste of “Service Above Self”. Signage identifying the Rotary club as a sponsor is displayed at the construction site as well as postings on social media and on the Club website.
