The Bastrop Club manufactured the pieces and parts for 33 new bunk beds on Saturday, October 25. They were joined by at least three other area Rotary Clubs, representatives of Bastrop County Cares, friends, family members, and a student service group from the University of Texas.
This team of 40+ people partnered with the nonprofit organization, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, which supports the construction of needed beds all over the United States.
The bed kits, including mattresses, will be distributed among Bastrop County families whose kids who do not have a bed of their own. The Bastrop Club will provide pillows and linens, and will be delivering and setting up the beds over the next few weekends. All the beds currently already have a home somewhere in Bastrop County.
Bastrop County Cares awarded the Bastrop Club a $17,500 grant earlier this year. The October 25 bed build is the first of two “builds” the Club will sponsor. A second build is tentatively scheduled for March 28, 2026, “Service Texas Day.”
