PDG Gene Neal was a tremendously dedicated Rotarian.  A 50+ year member of the Rotary Club of Fairfield, Gene served as Governor of District 587 in 1975-76 (not a typo – we didn’t have the last digit in 1975).  At Carlos Conseco’s request, Gene agreed to serve as one of the founding members of Rotary’s initiative to end Polio.  He and Past RI Director Jack Forrest, a member of the Rotary Club of Mexia, share the distinction of being the only two Rotarians in the history of our District to have earned both the Service Above Self Award, and the Rotary Foundation Distinguished Service Award.

Gene passed away on June 2, 2016.  In memory of his lifetime of service to Rotary, his family has agreed to permit District 5870 to use his Rotary Foundation Recognition Points to help spur contributions to the charity he worked so hard to promote - The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.  So, for a limited time starting on March 1, 2019, District 5870 will do the following:

Using Rotary Foundation Recognition Points generously donated by Gene Neal’s family, we will match contributions of new cash made to the Annual Fund-SHARE during Rotary Year 2018-19 on a 1-to-1 basis in amounts of $250 to $500 for any active Rotarian in District 5870 who is not yet a Paul Harris Fellow +8.

Please note:  These matches are limited to one per donor and will be processed on a first come, first served basis until May 30, 2019 or the match pool is exhausted with ever comes first.  Match requests received prior to March 1, 2019 will not be accepted.

Here’s how it works:
  1. Before making an eligible contribution, please contact PDG Rich Kaye via email at richkaye@hot.rr.com and let him know how much you intend to contribute.  He’ll establish your baseline and monitor Rotary Foundation (TRF) reports to:
    1. Verify that the funds have been received and posted properly to TRF records, and
    2. Determine the amount of the match for which you qualify.
  2. Send your contribution directly to TRF using either The Rotary Foundation Contribution Form (123-EN) or going on-line at www.rotary.org/givePlease note:  If you are going to donate on-line, be sure to sign into My Rotary before doing so.  Once the contribution appears on your record, we will submit the match.
  3. There are a few exceptions.  Please note that this program will not match:
  1. Contributions from anyone whose current Recognition Amount is $8,501 or more at the time the contribution is made and will not match more than it actually takes to achieve PHF+8 status.  For instance, if you have already contributed $8,500 to date, and now elect to contribute $300 more, we will only match the first $200 so that you achieve PHF+8.
  2. Contributions made to any fund other than the Annual Fund-Share (i.e. PolioPlus, Endowment Fund, Rotary Peace Centers, and Global Grants).  While these contributions are both appreciated and important, they fall outside the parameters of this program.
  3. Foundation Recognition Point transfers.
  1. If applicable, please provide PDG Rich with the mailing address to which you want your recognition pin mailed.  If you don’t provide one, it will be mailed to your club’s Rotary Foundation Chair.
