Northwest Austin Rotary Club put the call out, and many answered. On Saturday, October 16, over 60 volunteers showed up at the Cedar Park YMCA to help pack nearly 9,000 meals. Northwest Austin purchased raw materials from The Outreach Program, and with the help of area Rotary members and community volunteers, nearly 7,000 packaged meals were prepared.

Each meal package is filled using scoops from four essential, dry ingredients: rice, vitamin-fortified crushed soy, a dehydrated vegetable blend, and vitamin and mineral powder. The sealed packages have a long shelf life and can be cooked with just boiling water. When cooked, each package can feed six adults or twelve children.
 
 
Northwest Austin Rotary Club purchased from HopeAustin food to provide an additional 2,000-weekend meals to students who lose their subsidized meals offered during the school week.

HopeAustin provides weekend meals for students facing food insecurity. Each week, they deliver essential food to over 1,600 students at 61 different schools across Central Texas. This program gives children access to the nutrients they need to grow, develop, and focus on learning. The Outreach Program is to provide safe water, food, medical care, and education to those in need, at home and abroad. The Outreach Program is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation that organizes food packaging events across the US, Canada, and supporting countries, to keep carrying out its mission.
