As we dive into this month's theme dedicated to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), we are reminded of Rotary International’s commitment to creating sustainable and long-term solutions that benefi t communities worldwide. Access to clean water and adequate sanitation is more than just a necessity—it's a cornerstone of public health that fosters economic growth, educational opportunities, and community development.

The Challenge
Globally, 2.2 billion people lack access to safely managed drinking water services, and an estimated 4.2 billion people are without safely managed sanitation facilities. These gaps create a ripple effect across communities, increasing the burden of disease, reducing productivity, and in many cases, hindering educational progress, particularly for women and girls.

Our Response
Rotary clubs around the world stand at the forefront of addressing these challenges. By providing access to clean water, improving sanitation facilities, and promoting hygiene practices, we empower communities to thrive. Rotary's approach encompasses not only infrastructure improvements but also comprehensive education on hygiene practices to sustain behavioral changes.
One of our many impactful projects is the Cozumel Water Project, where Rotary members partnered with a local school, CBTIS 28, to build a water collection and purifi cation system so the students could have clean drinking water. This project has significantly decreased waterborne illnesses and increased school attendance, championing health and education.

Sustainable Solutions
Our commitment goes beyond providing immediate relief. Rotary emphasizes sustainable solutions by working with local leaders to train residents in maintaining water systems, manufacturing local water filters, and advocating for policy changes that prioritize WASH services.

Get Involved
We invite you to join our efforts in making clean water, sanitation, and hygiene accessible to all. There are numerous ways for you to get involved, whether it’s through volunteering for a local project, raising awareness about water-related issues, or fundraising for international initiatives.

A Future of Hope
