The 2018 District Rotary Foundation Distinguished Service Award was awarded to Nancy Lehmann-Carssow of the Rotary Club of Northwest Austin.

The District 5870 Rotary Foundation Distinguished Service Award is the highest award our district can bestow to an individual Rotarian.

To receive the Distinguished Service Award, the nominee must have demonstrated sustained superior service in support of The Rotary Foundation programs.  Financial contributions, however notable, are not a relevant consideration for this award.  The recipient must have shown service on a broad basis with a substantial level of activity. First awarded in 2013, the Distinguished Service Award has been presented six times.
Our recipient joined Rotary in 1989 soon after the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in the case of Rotary International versus the Rotary Club of Duarte, California.  She was active in support of our District’s Group Study Exchange teams from 2008 to 2013, and has served on her club’s Rotary Foundation Committee since 2012.

Significantly, our recipient served as a GSE host for five incoming teams from Italy, Brazil, Japan, Australia and the Philippines, and helped to organize and carry out successful fundraising efforts at the club and district level in support of Gail Buckley’s 2010 Wheel Chair project with the Dominican Republic.  Finally, she has participated in Polio Eradication National Immunization Days in both Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana.
