Rotary Club in Marlin welcomed Rotary International District 5870 Governor Beverly Luedke to its gathering on Wednesday, September 8, 2021.
Governor Luedke brought with her Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta's theme for 2021-2022, “Serve to Change Lives.” Governor Luedke urged Rotarians to examine and expand their projects, and to become more involved in service projects,

Governor Luedke also announced Rotary International’s newly-added area of focus: supporting the environment. Supporting the environment becomes Rotary's seventh area of focus, which are categories of service activities supported by global grants..More than $18 million in Foundation global grant funding has been allocated to environment-related projects over the past five years. As an example, Governor Luedke described the Navajo Water Project in Dilkon Chapter, Navajo Nation, Arizona, U.S.A. Temple South Rotary Club (Funding) is a participant in this project which made possible the installation of running home water systems in 63 homes. Installation provides at least 1200 gallons per household per month, or about 40 gallons per day in comparison to 7 gallons per day prior to installation.

Creating a distinct area of focus to support the environment will give Rotary members even more ways to bring about positive change in the world and increase impact.
It was a sort of homecoming for Governor Luedke, as she was born and raised in nearby Rosebud, Texas. Governor Luedke studied at Baylor University and the University of Texas Austin and received her BS Degree and Certificate in Physical Therapy from the University of Texas Health Science Center of Dallas. She practiced for 35 years, 25 years in private practice in Rosebud, Clifton and Rockdale, Texas specializing in orthopedic and geriatric care.

Beverly, a first-generation Rotarian, joined the Rotary Club in 2006, serving as Club President and on numerous project committees, and has received the Citation for Meritorious Service Award from The Rotary Foundation.

Governor Luedke married her high school sweetheart Larry who is a pharmacist and owner of a pharmaceutical benefit management company in Belton.

Planning and working as part of a global network of volunteer leaders who dedicate their time and talent to tackle the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges, members of Rotary Club of Marlin meet each Wednesday at 12:00 noon at The Chicken Place, Marlin, TX.
