The Rotary Club of Austin candidate Marta Hererra has been awarded a Global Grant Scholarship of $32,500 for conflict resolution studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Marta Herrera is from Austin, a Cum Laude graduate of Texas A&M University, with study abroad in Seville, Spain.  Her RI Area of Focus is Peace and Conflict Resolution.  She will attend the London School of Economics to attain a MSc in Conflict Studies. The genesis of her career goals stem from the civil war and genocide in Guatemala during the 1980s, where her grandfather and aunt were kidnapped and killed, and parents fled.  Volunteer activities include ESL teaching in Texas and Spain, Girls Run International coach in Washington D.C., and Women of Color Advancing Peace and Security.  Work experience includes bilingual teacher and global ambassador in College Station, human rights intern in Chile, intern at the Texas House of Rep., and in D.C. with TechnoServe, Women Enabled International, and Social Solutions International as a program assistant for USAID.
 
Marta’s career goal is to serve as a member of on-the-ground teams that intervene in conflict affected countries.  Ultimately, she aspires to be a policy maker and Foreign Service Officer.  #RotaryATX!
