Round Rock’s beloved Play for All Park — already a destination for families, children, and visitors from across Central Texas — is taking an exciting step forward with a new expansion that brings even more opportunity for play, learning, and community connection. The project, part of voter-approved funding and bolstered by community partnerships, reflects the city’s dedication to inclusive recreation and education.
The Round Rock City Council recently approved the first installment of the park’s next phase, moving forward with plans to install new play equipment in an undeveloped area of the park. This build-out includes a sustainability-themed play pod — an engaging space designed to teach children about environmental stewardship in a playful, hands-on way. The contract with Whirlix Design for this project was unanimously approved in early December 2025.

A Park That Educates as It Entertains

The new play pod will feature interactive elements that blend fun with learning. Among the exciting
additions are:

A recycling-truck slide that integrates sorting lanes to introduce children to recycling concepts.

An interactive recycling center where kids can explore sustainability principles.

An accessible interactive globe spinner, helping spark curiosity about our planet and how we care for it.

Work on this sustainability play component began in December, and the park anticipates welcoming
visitors to the updated area in spring or summer 2026.

Investing in Inclusive Play and Community

The expansion is made possible through a combination of funding sources. A portion comes from a $250,000 National Neighborhood Promise grant awarded by the Republic Services Charitable Foundation, emphasizing sustainability education and community partnership. Additional funding for equipment and installation is provided through the 2023 voter-approved general obligation bond package.

Play for All Park has long been a source of pride for Round Rock, offering a fully inclusive playground where children of all abilities can play side by side in a space designed to support physical, social, and cognitive growth. The park consistently draws visitors — with the City’s Parks and Recreation Department estimating roughly 1,000 guests per day — and has welcomed millions of visitors since opening in 2012.

Rotary’s Continued Impact

Our own Rotary Club of Round Rock Sunrise has been a dedicated supporter of Play for All Park. Over the years, the club’s contributions have helped fuel growth, accessibility, and programming that enrich the lives of local families. In summer 2023, the club donated $50,000 to the Play for All Foundation, supporting both maintenance and future expansion efforts.

Club member Lee Buckland, long a champion of inclusive community projects, has been quoted in coverage of the park’s expansion, underscoring Rotary’s commitment to making Round Rock a great place to live, play, and grow.

Looking Forward

This expansion not only enhances recreational opportunities but also reinforces the park’s mission of inclusion, learning, and community engagement. As the sustainability pod takes shape, families and visitors alike will find new ways to explore, play, and discover — growing Round Rock’s reputation as a vibrant, inclusive city for all.

The Round Rock Sunrise Rotary Club’s ongoing support remains a key part of this story, showing once again how service, partnership, and vision can transform our community for the better.
