To foster a love of reading is one of the greatest gifts we can provide the children in our community. The Rotary Club of Temple has found a unique way to provide consistent access to a variety of books at several elementary schools. On Saturday, March 22nd a dozen Rotarians spent the day assembling and installing new Little Libraries. There are now eight new Little Libraries in four different school districts.

The concept of the Little Library is simple, take one and leave one. The Little Libraries are stocked with age-appropriate books for any child to take, read and enjoy. The Rotary Club has enough books to stock the libraries for the next year and the community is encouraged to add any books they want to share with the next young reader.

“The Temple Rotary Club has made education a high priority for years,” said Club President Paul Carr. “Making books available to children year-round, but especially during the summer when school libraries are closed, will make a difference in the literacy rates for our community.” All of this was made possible by the DAP Grant received by the club. President-Elect Kim Langston plans to continue the program next year, as additional elementary schools already have expressed interest in receiving a Little Library.

The Club hopes the community embraces these new libraries and keep them going for many years to come.
