The Rotary Club Of Georgetown, TX and Georgetown ISD have partnered together to bring Peace Poles to campuses throughout the district. Each Peace Pole carries the message "Let there be peace on Earth! Let it begin with me."
Each pole also conveys the message "May Peace Prevail On Earth", which is written in several different languages. Peace Pole gardens on each campus begins with the students. The students design what their Peace Pole garden will look like. The Rotary Club Of Georgetown provides the funding for the projects to come to life. The gardens are intended to serve as a quiet place where students can join together for reflection. It can also serve as a safe, quiet space for students to sit alone for reflection. Mitchell Elementary principal Hollee Braun said, "I am hopeful that students will look to this symbol as a reminder to embrace empathy and work towards a more peaceful world, together." Currently, five campuses have Peace Pole gardens. Projects will continue as six additional campuses are planning to install Peace Pole Gardens.
