In 2022, the Rotary Club of Pflugerville embarked on a project to clean up brush and overgrowth at the Pflugerville Historic Colored Addition Cemetery as well as help mark unmarked graves.
Infrared scanning was done to find the interred, Cook Walden helped to supply us with markers and engrave those graves that became identified, and many community members came out to help us clean brush and set markers. For a community that was not given the dignity of a marker in death, the citizens and Rotarians helped them have a little more of it as they continue to reside at the cemetery. In 2023, a new fence is being put in on the front side of the cemetery to replace the old one that has seen better days, and the community clean up will continue. Keeping a DAP grant project as big as this requires multi-year participation. It's really an inspiration that our club is so excited to continue to help engage hope and share love to and for the families of those who are buried here.
