South Austin Rotary has been helping a soup kitchen in South East Austin at South Austin Market Place transitional housing facility that houses more than 170 people in a high risk environment.
People live in single and double rooms there and share the bathroom and shower facilities making the potential for virus spread higher than average. The Rotary club as well as individual members have contributed not only financially to help purchase food but also have contributed plastic ware, cups and carry out styrofoam containers in which to distribute the dinners. These containers are very important since the residents are no longer allowed in the kitchen with their own plates to walk through a buffet type line. Their plate is pre-prepared and handed out the door to each person waiting in the line outside with 6 foot spacing for those waiting.
