Over Thanksgiving, my 3-year-old granddaughter said, “Pops, let’s do a puzzle!” So of course we did, and it has sparked a renewal of interest in doing puzzles. This Christmas, we have done two already.
When we do puzzles, we dump out all the pieces, turn them all over, and begin to look for the border pieces. After the border is complete, we begin to sort the pieces by color or some identifiable part of the big puzzle. We look at the picture of the big puzzle, and begin to sort out something that might be a part of a Christmas tree, or a sleigh, or presents...well, you get the picture, right?
Toward the end of the puzzle, we are down to the hard pieces where you are looking for a little red, or a certain ornament on the tree, or a fire in the fireplace. We are down now just a few pieces to place in the puzzle. The puzzle won’t be complete until every piece is in place. There are no unimportant puzzle pieces. Everyone counts, and if somehow a piece is lost, well for some, the puzzle is ruined.
To me, these two truths are the same for Rotary. We need Big Rotary (Districts, Zones, the Rotary Foundation) so that we can touch people and places all over the world. One piece cannot do it all. We need Big Rotary.
However, we also need every single piece of the puzzle (local clubs) to link together to make the Great Big Rotary Puzzle.
In March, we will be conducting Service Texas Day across our District. We are asking every District 5870 Rotary Club (the puzzle pieces) to conduct a Service Project of their choosing so that our communities and friends can see the Great Big Rotary Puzzle. People will be able to see the good we do as Rotarians to make a difference in the lives of individuals and our community.
Come join all the Rotary Clubs of District 5870 to be a piece of the great big Rotary puzzle. There are no unimportant pieces! Join us on Saturday, March 28th, for Service Texas Day to be a piece of the Great Big Rotary District 5870 Puzzle.
