The speaker for the South Austin Rotary Club's August 20th meeting was Katie Edwards, the Executive Director and Curator for Umlauf Sculpture Gardens located in the heart of Austin, Texas adjacent to Zilker Park. Katie's presentation inspired the club to want to take a tour of the six acre garden and see in person some of the 273 sculptures by Charles Umlauf.
Six members and guests met at the gardens on Saturday, August 30th at noon and were guided by docent Tom Haider who shared the bronze sculpting process and it's many variations as
well as the life and history of Charles and his wife, Angeline. Umlauf created thousands of sketches and hundreds of sculptures that are on display around the world.
