A few years ago, through our connection with Trudy Marshall of the Rotary Club of Pflugerville, we embarked on a journey that has profoundly impacted a young girl’s life. Trudy, who spends half her year in Uganda building libraries through her organization Libraries of Love, identified a critical need: sponsoring children's education, as public schooling in Uganda isn't free.

Two years ago, Shannon and I, along with fellow Rotary members Boyd and Susan Sando Hemphill, began sponsoring Eva’s education. Last year, Trudy shared heartbreaking news—Eva was facing a significant challenge. At just 70% deaf, her hearing loss was jeopardizing her education, a condition that stemmed from a childhood infection untreated due to financial constraints.

Determined to help, Trudy proposed a surgery that could restore Eva’s hearing. Together with Boyd, Susan, Shannon, and others, we rallied support, providing the additional funds needed for Eva's surgery on both ears.

Today, we are overjoyed to share that Eva has regained her hearing and is thriving in school. Her success story is a testament to the life-changing impact of Rotary and the connections we have forged through our involvement.

Eva’s journey reminds us of Rotary's power to make a difference, locally and globally. Through initiatives like ours, Rotary truly changes lives. Join us in celebrating Eva’s triumph and the enduring spirit of Rotary!
