Rotary Club of Austin-Southwest: August Gave Us a Chance at a Trifecta of Service. As the start of school approached this month, Austin-Southwest Rotary had not one but three opportunities for service and jumped on it.
The Club helped out with traffic control as El Buen Samaritano, an Episcopal mission in Southwest Austin, gave out 500 backpacks and provided Covid vaccinations for the neighborhood.
The next opportunity was to assist Constable George Morales at Dove Springs Community Center. The Club donated 400 boxes of crayons and helped hand out much needed school supplies. This successful event provided the East Austin community with 3900 backpacks and school supplies, 3200 hand sanitizers and 12, 000 masks along with 399 Covid vaccinations.
The third service event involved helping SW Travis County Rural Community Center and Southwest Community Church distribute 141 backpacks and free pizza to families who were clients of the Community Center. We were greeted with smiles and ‘thank you’ at all these events.
We are proud to have helped the kids in our area get back to school for a year of success.
