Following the devastating San Gabriel River flood on July 4th, Sun City Rotary (SCR) launched a swift relief effort focused on displaced children and RV park families. Rotarian Jerry Stephens, a former FEMA official, was among the first on-site at two RV communities where 48 trailers were destroyed. Thanks to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, all residents were safely evacuated.
On July 30th, the Rotary Club of La Grange teamed up with local favorite Macs Daqs to host a lively Happy Hour fundraiser in the heart of downtown La Grange. Bastrop Rotarians “scattered” last week to three Member businesses for our weekly meeting. Rotarian Laurence Richardson hosted at Frost Bank-Bastrop. Rotarian Rick St. Cin welcomed folks to his company offices at Capital of Texas Roofing & Siding. The law offices of Tuck-McClimon (Rotarian Joe Grady Tuck) hosted a third group of Rotarians.
In an effort to bring better awareness to our local club, our outgoing President Lia Zaccagnino visited the Rotary International Headquarters in Evanston, Illinois in June. Lia has served as our President the past two years and truly brought a better understanding to our club about the efforts of Rotary International and how we make a difference in a bigger way and not just in Caldwell, Texas.
On July 3rd, The Rotary Club of West Austin lost a dearly loved member, Aubrey Linn Wilson. Just last October, the club celebrated Aubrey’s 100th birthday. It was a great celebration during which Aubrey displayed his characteristic warm smile.
