As we approach October 24, we are reminded of one of Rotary’s most significant global health initiatives: the fight to end polio. World Polio Day is an occasion for reflection and a call to action. This day highlights our relentless efforts to eradicate polio and celebrates our progress towards a polio-free world.

I found myself reflecting recently, wondering why people come to their first Rotary meeting. This curiosity pulled me back through my own memories, tracing the path to why I joined Rotary in the first place.

Pflugerville’s most popular pfestival, Deutschen Pfest is held every year in Pfluger Park! In 2024, the City of Pflugerville celebrates with their 48th Pfest from October 18-19, 2024. The Pfestival schedule is always bursting with pfun beginning on Friday at 5pm with the event’s opening, children’s games and activities, shopping booths, competitions, live music, and pfun all weekend long!

On September 21, 2024, Rotarian LeAnn Carr from the Rotary Club of Georgetown, TX participated in a bed build for the Georgetown Chapter of Sleep In Heavenly Peace. Sleep In Heavenly Peace is a non-profit organization that builds and delivers beds to children in Williamson County who are in need of a bed.

The Bastrop Club delivered its first load of "loot" to the Principal and Vice-principal at Emile Elementary earlier in September. The treasure includes "extras," like snacks and drinks for the Teachers' Lounge, but also essentials, such as school necessities, like pens, markers, paper, and notepads, that might otherwise have to be bought by the teachers themselves.
The Rotary Club of Austin in partnership with Killeen Rotary have found a unique way to thank our military for their service. Every month we host an enlisted Soldier and family for an R&R in Austin .
On Saturday, September 14, the Rotary Club of Killeen provided a 100 hot breakfast sandwiches and care bags with fruit and non-perishable food items to the unhoused and residents of North Killeen. Members of the Rotary Club of Georgetown, TX came together on September 14, 2024, for a morning of work and fellowship. Rotarians built an accessibility ramp for a neighbor in Coupland, TX. The ramp build project helps to give homebound and disabled individuals, along with their caregivers, more independence within their own home.
Northwest Austin Rotary Club made blankets for the annual Coat and Blanket drive in partnership with Hill Country Community Ministries. Donations are accepted through Nov 5. On Week 1, they have 10 new blankets.
The District Youth Service Committee is looking for a person to fill the "Girl Scout Liaison" who serve as the liaison and advocate for Girl Scouts at the District level as well as all Rotary clubs in the District. This includes partnering with the District and Club volunteers to increase visibility and knowledge of the Girl Scout program.
This year’s UN theme, Cultivating a Culture of Peace, underscores the global need to promote mutual understanding, goodwill, and peace within our communities — the cornerstone of Rotary’s mission. To support this goal, Rotary partners with eight leading universities around the world to offer Rotary Peace Fellowships that provide the education, training, and capacity building peace and development professionals need to help them successfully prevent and resolve conflict.
On September 20th and 21st, the Rotary Club of Round Rock held their annual fundraiser called The BBQ Cook Off & The BBQ Thing in Round Rock, TX. We had 21 cook off teams participate in the state championship, sanctioned event in coordination with the Lone Star BBQ Society.
Co-Chairs Trent Warwick and Tracey Cavin are making great plans for the annual Casino Night scheduled for January 18, 2025. This year the event is changing venues to the Caldwell Civic Center and will include more gaming tables and more opportunities to win prizes!!
