I LOVE THIS TIME OF YEAR!!!! The trees are budding, the bluebonnets are blooming and Rotary Benches are popping up EVERYWHERE!! This is an exciting time for Rotarians and District 5870 as many things are coming to fruition. We have completed a couple of our District projects we set out to do in July and the others are close to completion.

Flatonia Rotary members are taking action to raise awareness, funds, and support to end polio, a vaccine-preventable disease that still threatens children in parts of the world today.
One of our Rotary District 5870 service projects this year is Empowering Girls and Women. Belton and Cedar Park have already had service events, and now Georgetown Days for Girls is our focal point for our final district service project for this project.

Rotarians from District 5870 Leadership met with Lampasas' Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Melissa Unger about developing a Satellite Club or Rotary Club in Lampasas County.
Lori Scott, Executive Director of the Round Rock Serving Center, spoke to Round Rock Sunrise on February 18th. The club presented her with a check for $1000 on behalf of the Copperas Cove Rotary Club.
The students at Harris Elementary in Austin were honored today for the trait of Citizenship by Sir James. The parents of the honorees were invited to attend and this character program is sponsored by the University Area Rotary and the Austin North Metro Passport Rotary Clubs.

The Rotary Club of Bastrop County has installed a new park bench adjacent to “Smitty” the nation’s largest gingerbread man, in Smithville. In the peaceful park where Smitty resides is a tranquil garden with gingerbread mosaic walking paths, and art abounds.
The Rotary Club of West Austin would like to announce that we are nearing completion of our second Global Grant. This is a water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) project in Bilampi, Nicaragua benefiting 43 families.

The Rotary Club of Austin donated two carloads of new or gently used professional clothes to the UT Career Closet. The clothes are available to students as they prepare for graduation, job interviews and entering the work force.
