The Rotary Club of Austin NxNE is hosting a Rise Against Hunger Meal Packing event on November 16th 9AM to 12PM at Casa Chapala, 9041 Research Blvd., Suite 100, Austin, TX 78758. Thirty + volunteers are needed to pack 10,000 meals for those in need! Sign-up to volunteer.
Rotary Club of Austin Southwest celebrated 1 year of collecting styrofoam to keep it out of the landfill. On this day we collected 16 contractor bags and over 20 coolers.
Rotary Club of Cedar Park-Leander accomplished an important goal! After a wonderful Charity Garden Party fundraiser hosted by N2 Gives and organized by Jennifer Lynn Pizer the Club had $2500 to serve our community.
On October 3, Bastrop County Club partnered with Frost Bank, Smithville Brewing Company, and several individual Rotarian sponsors to host the most successful “Pints” event in its history! Souvenir beer glasses, free “fills,” and great raffle items contributed to a fun and financially fruitful evening. Smithville Brewery is a local pub, so we had many non-Rotarian folks that also got an education about the need to End Polio Now!
Our Rotary Club helped raise funds during the Day of Giving on October 15th at the Caldwell Civic Center in partnership with Brazos Valley Gives. Brazos Valley Gives brings the region together as one community raising money and awareness for our local nonprofits during the 18-hour online giving challenge. BVG inspires people to give generously to nonprofits making our region stronger and creating a thriving community for all!
Four children in Georgetown have a bed to call their own thanks to members of the Rotary Club of Georgetown, TX. On October 19, 2024 Rotarian Myra Page along with Rotarian Ed Petrere and his wife Evelyn volunteered to deliver beds for Sleep In Heavenly Peace.
On October 19, members of the Marble Falls Rotary Club and the Hill Country Passport Club helped with a global grant project in Sarita, TX. The project involved planting plants in retention pond of the Sarita Elementary School.
While preparing for the start of school can be exciting for students, it can also be a financial burden on the families when asked to bring in multiple paper products and school supplies. On Thursday, 17 October 2024, addressing the need for school paper supplies to be donated by parents, the Flatonia Rotary Club delivered three cases (60 rolls) of paper towels and eighty 1” binders to Principal Laura Kutac at the Flatonia Elementary School, to offset the burden of school families having to supply them.
On October 17, 2024, Rotary Club of Temple presented donation checks to Family Promise of Bell County and Our Lady of the Angels Maternity Shelter (OLAMS) from the proceeds of its yearly fundraising event, The Killer Dueling Pianos that was held on July 11, 2024. This year the total amount raised for the nonprofits was $25,000! The proceeds were split in half and each nonprofit received a check for $12,500!
November is National Family Caregivers Month. Over 34 million Americans currently act as informal (and unpaid) caregivers for a family member, with women making up over half of the caregiver population.
The Rotary Club of Austin hosted a fellowship event to celebrate World Polio Day. We gathered at The Armadillo Den in Austin and listened to our newest member, Blake Seydel’s, band THE BLAKE ROBERT BAND play, share great food, fun, and fellowship while sharing about the great work Rotary is doing to END POLIO NOW!
Rotary E Club of Central Texas gave a scholarship to Texas State nursing student Gracie Motschman from the Mark Richardson Memorial fund with special thanks to Betty Richardson. This scholarship was greatly appreciated for her final year of nursing school.
When school started at Pecan Springs, there were two new teachers who came all the way from Columbia, Africa but arrived with nothing to start their year of teaching except an empty apartment and a portable blowup mattress. The staff at the school spread the word to my Rotary club, the Rotary Club of Austin who sponsors many of the events and support for that school and we spread the word through our members about what the teachers needed to make their empty apartment a home.
Experts have long pointed to trees as one of the most scalable and affordable nature-based solutions to battling climate change. Trees pull carbon from the air, clean our water, and reduce dangerously high temperatures, reduce air pollution, improve soil quality and are a food for birds and wildlife.
The Rotary Club of Cedar Park - Leander had the honor to present a check to Reed Elementary School’s PTA. Books will be purchased by the school’s librarian and will be presented by Rotary Club members to the students at the school later this year. This project supports the Rotary Club’s reading and literacy goals. Representing the Rotary Club were Dee Ann Thomas (club president), Jerry W Chapman (club president elect), Woody Engebretson, Linda Starnes, and Joe Dahlstrom.
EAFK was introduced to the district in 2008, when my husband Ronney Reynolds was the incoming district governor. We were invited by one of our incoming DG classmates to hear about an incredible new character-building program that was being featured at the San Antonio district conference at a ranch. We agreed to go since it was about education and children and I had been a teacher so it sparked my interest. We had no idea that night we would meet a real live knight in shining armor!
Aubrey Wilson turned 100 years old on Wednesday, October 16th, 2024!. The Rotary Club of West Austin celebrated with Aubrey and family at the Casa Chapala Restaurant on Thursday, October 17th, 2024.
