November is Foundation month on the Rotary calendar. Our Foundation is beginning its second century. When I joined Rotary, my club president encouraged me to support the Rotary Foundation and become a “Sustaining Member”. He shared with me that a Sustaining Member was someone who contributed $100 a year to the Rotary Foundation. I could afford $2 per week by just cutting back on my daily stops at Starbucks.
“Thank you for the benches and improvements to the facility. Fortunately, the homeless shelter was available for me, as I am battling cancer and have no place to go. The shelter has been and is a Godsend for me. Again, thanks for your support and help.”

Rotarians from around the District came out this past Saturday to join the Rotary Clubs of Austin NxNE, Northwest Austin and Universtiy Area to pack meals for the Rise Aganist Hunger. The goals was to pack 10,000 meal kits. As always, we Rotarians like to rise to the challenge. Total meals packed for the day were 10,152. Rich Hill of Austin NXNE led the organizing effort, and special thanks to Lupe Barragan for providing space to pack the meals (and margaritas!) at Casa Chapala.
Record amounts of rain in the Highland Lakes and surrounding areas has led to wide spread area flooding. Many area residents have lost everything, including District Rotarians. Others are experiencing various levels of loss. Marble Falls, Cottonwood Shores, Kingsland, and Granite Shoals are the major towns in this area. Granite Shoals and Cottonwood Shores have been the hardest hit and have the greatest economic threat to recovery.
