The Foundation Luncheon raises funds for the Rotary Foundation, which carries out the humanitarian good works of Rotary around the globe. Rotary set a goal in 1987 to eradicate polio from the world by immunizations, and this is the signature effort of the Foundation. Today, we are "this close" to full eradication as only a handful of cases in Afghanistan and Pakistan have been reported this year. Additionally, the Foundation supports efforts for clean water, mother and child health and education.

The speaker is Jim "The Rookie" Morris, who while coaching baseball for the Reagan County Owls promised his team that he would try out for Major League Baseball if they won the District Championship. When they did, he went to a Tampa Bay Devil Rays tryout. The scout wasn't interested, but gave him a tryout solely to let him keep his promise. Morris, though, threw 12 consecutive 98-mph fastballs at the tryout and wound up becoming a major league rookie at the age of 35. A movie about his exploits called "The Rookie" was released in 2002 starring Dennis Quaid. Morris is apparently quite a speaker, and the theme for the luncheon is "Take Me Out To The Ballgame."

Tickets are $45 apiece; tables and other group sponsor rates are available.

Linda Angel is heading up the Luncheon for RCHH. Her email is and her cell # is 254-681-6306. She can give you all the details (ticket information, silent auction, meetings with Morris, etc.) and some quotable quotes, as well as hook you up with the folks who have photos and such that might prove helpful. The HH Chamber is coming online to be a ticket outlet, and RCHH members can also get tickets for those interested.
