Following the devastating San Gabriel River flood on July 4th, Sun City Rotary (SCR) launched a swift relief effort focused on displaced children and RV park families. Rotarian Jerry Stephens, a former FEMA official, was among the first on-site at two RV communities where 48 trailers were destroyed. Thanks to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, all residents were safely evacuated.
SCR coordinated emergency shelter and temporary housing, supported cleanup efforts, and ensured vital recovery info reached affected families—thanks to Stephens’ quick action with printed flyers. On July 8, Club President Mike Burke rallied members to support a new Georgetown Flood Relief Fund, aiming to raise $50,000. Led by John Rutan, the Relief Task Force designated funds for The Georgetown Project ($20K), The Locker ($15K), and RV park cleanup ($7K).
By July 31, SCR members had donated over $80,000—exceeding the goal by 60%. Funds will be distributed to trusted local agencies, reflecting SCR’s deep commitment to service, compassion, and community resilience.
