The Rotary Club of Round Rock recently held its first in-person fundraiser since Covid shut the world down, and it was a roaring success! The two-part event held at the Old Settlers Association on September 15th and 16th included the inaugural 1st Annual Round Rock BBQ Cook Off, sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbeque Society, and the Club’s 1st Annual BBQ Thing.
With 21 BBQ teams competing in four categories (Beans, Chicken, Ribs, and Brisket), the event was a huge hit. On the 16th, the Rotary Club of Round Rock hosted its BBQ Thing fundraiser, which featured a fabulous BBQ meal provided by the competing teams, a reverse raffle, a great silent auction, games, live music from the band Tumbleweed Hill, and the announcement and presentation of winners from the BBQ Cook Off.
Parrot Head Smokers was crowned the Grand Champion, and Love's The Answer the Reserve Grand Champion. The BBQ Thing raised funds for several nonprofit organizations supported by the Rotary Club of Round Rock in the local community. Plans are already underway for next year's events! It's a blessing to put Service Above Self into play by helping deserving nonprofits with the financial success of these events.
