News Around The District
Georgetown Rotary Club presented the second check to R.O.C.K. (Ride On Center for Kids) ROCK Ride On Center for Kids as a beneficiary of the Patriots Ball, one of the Field of Honor events. This will help pay for a session of Camp Courage this July, a fabulous equestrian therapy camp that helps kids of military families (8 to 12 years of age), some of whom may have a disability. It is a healing and wonderful program at no cost to the families that the Rotary Club of Georgetown is proud to support.
The community service committee for Fulmore Middle School's Interact Club performed a park clean-up project on Saturday, April 7.  Two of the kids in the Interact Club - Colby and Nate - along with Colby's dad Brian and Andy Swanson picked up trash and debris at Little Stacy Park.  Thanks to Sherry Workman for providing gloves to all of the volunteers!
Hutto Rotary braved the cold and the wind Saturday, April 7th, along with 400 other volunteers to help with the 2018 Great Hutto Cleanup. An annual event put on by the Keep Hutto Beautiful Foundation, the Great Hutto Cleanup is a day for citizens to help make Hutto a cleaner, better place to live. Citizens can drop off trash, hazardous waste, brush, etc to be disposed of properly. Volunteers line every street and major area cleaning up trash and beautifying common areas.
The Rotary Club of Marlin has partnered with the city of Marlin to develop and maintain a community garden. Awesome service project!
The District Governor Selection Committee, comprised of fifteen members appointed by DG Gene Holiman to equally represent grouped clubs in fifteen geographic sectors within District 5870, each comprising approximately the same numbers of Rotarians, met in Georgetown on Saturday, March 17, with three candidates nominated for the position of DG 2020-21. After extensive interviews, the committee voted to recommend Rick Stacy of the Marble Falls Rotary Club as their selection.
Per the printed selection guidelines available on the District 5870 website, any formal written objections from the clubs which formally submitted candidates for consideration, must be received within 30 days (prior to April 20) by District Governor Gene Holiman. Pending the resolution of any objections, Rick will officially begin his governing track as District Governor-designate April 20, then automatically become the District Governor Nominee on July 1, 2018.
We offer our congratulations to Rick and thank him for his continuing contributions to the growth and strength of District 5870 of Central Texas and wish him well in the new chapter of his Rotary leadership.
