The Rotary Club of Austin members look forward to our annual Helping Hand Home Rotary Christmas Party. We have been doing this Rotary signature project for over 100 years.
The kids at the home have not had a very happy childhood and were removed from their abusive family home permanently. The counselors and all the home sponsors like Rotary work to restore adult trust in the kids. The Rotary Club allows the kids to pick out presents, Rotary buys and wraps them and Santa gives them to the kids at this party. The kids open their gifts in disbelief because for the first time they actually get what they ask for during a special occasion. “A promise made- a promise kept.”
This year our club got to add a very special item to their gifts thanks to the San Antonio Spurs and the Rotary Club of San Antonio. This group donated 500 of the authentic Spurs jerseys from the Youth Series to our Rotary Club of Austin to give out to individuals who needed a brighter Christmas. Our club started with the Helping Hands Home Christmas Party. We were able to give each of the kids and their counselors a jersey for keeps. Everyone was so proud of these special surprises and the kids were happy to model them. What a wonderful holiday season and look forward to hearing about more surprises to come.
