March is Water and Sanitation month on our Rotary calendar.  So many things in our lives we take for granted.  Access to clean water and flush toilets in our lifetime have always been available; until they aren’t.  Area residents this past year had a brief experience of not having clean drinking water available.

Waco Rotarians have been busy promoting literacy with the with 1st and 2nd graders in Waco ISD. Thanks to a partnership with YMCA OF CENTRAL TEXAS and Junior League of Waco we have been handing out personalized books to some precious children!

Over 100 Rotarians and volunteers gathered the morning of Feb. 23 to package 32,616 meals for the hungry and malnourished in our world.  The Rotary Club of Austin doubled the number of meals packed this year!  With strong leadership from Rotarian and Project Manager, Dr. Ann Marie Ellis, the fellowship hall was packed with Boy Scouts, friends and Rotarians with hearts for service.

The Marble Falls Daybreak Rotary received a 2018 DAP Grant from Rotary District 5870 to provide Open Door Recovery House (ODRH) in Marble Falls with two new computers and a new printer. The Open Door Recovery House is a 501(c) non-profit that operates a residential facility for women in Marble Falls who are working on recovery from drugs and or alcohol. 

The International Youth Exchange Team piled into Bastrop Rotarian Sarah Brightwell’s new car and trekked to Tulsa for the annual South Central Rotary Youth Exchange Winter Conference.  Sarah and Jennifer Graham (Rotary Club of Temple) attended workshops and classes for two days while our Inbound Students enjoyed time with the 100 other international kids in our region.

What better way to celebrate the month of love by passing that love to our military by bringing them to Austin for a fun complimentary weekend with all the trimmings. The Rotary  Clubs of Austin and Killeen sponsor a program called Operation Vacation

On Friday, February 15th, the Yoakum Rotary Club loaded up a van provided by Marty Garrison of .Wendel Motor Company with 276 teddy bears and headed for Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi. 

The Salado Rotary Club is hosting their 2^nd Annual BBQ Cook-off on May 25^th.  We would love for any Rotary clubs to put a BBQ team together.  This is also open to the public where they can purchase a wrist band and taste each teams BBQ. With the purchase of a wrist band, you can taste each teams BBQ and judge which team you like best. In addition to all the BBQ eating there will be live music, shopping, games, and fun for the whole family! All proceeds raised go back to the community and scholarships.
